Abstract

The Quran is a Muslim holy book that gives people guidelines and advice for obtaining happiness in this life and the next. The Quran, being a sacred book, includes a wealth of information and scientific truths. The Quran conveys Allah's commandments in the form of words. Non-Muslims as well as non-Arabs   sometimes have trouble comprehending its words especially those with extraordinary meaning which is called Ghareeb Al Quran or the   extraordinary words. Gharib Al-Qur’an is considered by many Islam enemies as  a fault in the Qur’an, and that these words have no meaning or function  and  they are out of context. The study tends to investigate those Ghareeb words and will try to answer the questions: What are the thematic roles of those extraordinary words in the ayahs of the holy Quran? And, how they are affected by other roles in same context? The aim of the study is to explore   the thematic roles of the extraordinary words in surah Al Rahman in the Holy Quran with the hypothesis that each Ghareeb lexical word has its own function exemplified by its thematic role affected by   the context in which it is created. The researcher has chosen Saeed ' s  model (2009) of thematic role for the purpose of the study's qualitative analysis of the first ten ayahs consisting extraordinary word (s) in ar Rahman surah. The study is wrapped up with the results and conclusions that validate the hypothesis set previously.
